Virtual Girls Night In: The Indulgence Edition - Round Up

Sadly, this year was a bit of a bust. Nobody turned up to join me to raise money for the Cancer Council, which is very disappointing after the great turn out last year. With my computer out of commission I wasn't able to do the promoting as much as I would have liked, but it is still sad. Next year we'll go back to pink things, that seems to be a much more popular theme.

Of course I made something for this event, Chocolate Risotto topped with more chocolate (and rainbow sprinkles for the kids) so you can feast your eyes on this, if nothing else.

I hope you think about joining me next year, and remember, it's not too late to donate at least!

Virtual Girls Night In: The Indulgence Edition.

After all the fun we had last year, cooking pink food for the Virtual Girls Night In, I had to bring it back again this year.

This year, after a request that we not go with a pink theme, I thought we'd aim for Indulgence. A lot of Girls Night In events work on the theme of day spas, with at-home mud packs and giving each other pedicures. Now, I'm not about to break out the emery board, but we can still have an indulgent virtual event.

What I want you to do is cook yourself something indulgent. This could be that super complicated, triple chocolate, coffee, caramel, mousse monstrosity you always want to try cooking but couldn't justify, or something simple, like a risotto, when you are the only person in the house who eats rice, or maybe try your hand at making bath salts or a mud mask! However you choose to interpret the theme, I want you to treat yourself. Too many times we get caught up in being mothers, sisters, best friends, wives, and lovers, and forget to be just ourselves. So take a moment, and appreciate you for you.

Then after you've been dragged back to reality, write up your indulgence and drop me a line about it. Donating money to the Cancer Council is not required to enter this event, although it is kind of the point, but if I can reach my $50 goal, then I will give away a secret pack of goodies to a random participant.

The obligatories:

  1. Cook something on the theme of "indulgence", and take a photo.

  2. Write a blog post about it.

    • Posts need to include a link to this page and to the donation page. Feel free to use either of the above buttons to link back.

  3. Then email it to me at silvermoon[AT]tmbg[DOT]org including:

    • your name

    • the name of your blog

    • the permalink of your dish

    • the name of your dish

    • any other info about why you made what you made

    • a jpg of your dish. It should be no bigger than 300 pixels square, and named either with your blog name or the name of the dish.

  4. If you don't have a blog, feel free to send your photos and recipes directly to me, and I'll put them in the round up for you.

  5. Deadline is Tuesday 26th October (the day after Pink Ribbon Day) and round up will be posted late in the week.

Remember, you don't need to be in Australia to be able to donate!

Virtual Girls Night In: Pink Food

Welcome to the round up of the Virtual Girls Night In.

Dorit from prettybaking in Israel made Reeses Nesquik Breast Cancer Awareness Cupcakes, drawing parallels between femininity and chocolate, sweet, dark and addictive.

Asha from Fork Spoon Knife gives us Pomegranate Yogurt Ice Cream, a low fat creamy treat that's packed with anti-oxidants

Arfi from HomeMadeS made Chocolate Buttons and Gluten-Free Vanilla Buttons, reliving some childhood memories.

Vicky from Sweets at Vicky's gives us Gluten Free Black & Pink Cookies, because everyone needs something to constantly pick at during a girls night in!

Yasmeen over at Health Nut made Pink Stuffed Buns, giving us something savoury, and hearty (which will help soak up all the booze I'm serving!).

Kanchan from Kitchen Gossip made Solkadi, a traditional Indian drink usually served with seafood.

Nat from MummaRats Nest made Pink Jelly Cakes, 3-in-1 Biscuits, and Pink Sleeping Teddy Biscuits proving there is no such thing as too much pink when you cook with an Almost-4-Year-Old little girl. (I hear you there Nat!)

Muneeba from An Edible Symphony gives us Girly Cupcakes, gorgeous delicate things with real strawberry puree in the mix

Cakelaw from Laws of the Kitchen made Rose Biscuits pretty, pink, delicate things perfect for Pink October

Of course, I wouldn't be much of a host if I didn't serve anything myself! We've got some Pink Strawberry Cupcakes and these awesomely dangerous Pink Grapefruit Cosmopolitan Smoothies, not the healthiest concoction but man, do they taste good. I wish you could all come around to my house for real to taste these babies, honest!

So that's it for this event. I hope you all had a bit of fun making your pink food, and I'm so pleased so many people came to my little event, and helped spread the word.
To end on a serious note, I hope you consider making a donation to the Cancer Council. The money goes towards research, and support programs for those diagnosed with cancer. See how your money helps.Thank you to all those who have already donated. If you don't feel you can afford to donate any money, then thank you regardless, for donating your time and cooking to make this event such a success, and helping raise awareness. Without your help, this would have just been me blogging on my own, and that would have been pretty sad. Make sure you check back here next October, and we'll make this an annual event!

Going Pink for October!

You might have noticed the new look, a rather girly change for me.
It's all in aid of Pink for October, where blogs go pink, to raise awareness for breast cancer.

I love October, as it's when Tim Tams raise money for breast cancer research with the Pink Wish strawberry flavour. It's my favourite Tim Tam flavour, and I do my best to fund breast cancer research all by myself just by buying these all month :D

There's lots of other ways to raise money or awareness, so keep an eye out for Pink events in your local area like Pink Ribbon Day and Girls Night In.

I've always wanted to host a Girls Night In, but I've not had a good track record with attendance on parties. So this year, I had the perfect idea. I'm going to host a virtual Girls Night In! I'm encouraging bloggers worldwide to think pink and cook up a storm for charity.

  1. Cook something pink, and take a photo.

  2. Write a blog post about it.

    • Posts need to include a link to this page and to the donation page, using the button is optional but appreciated.

  3. Then email it to me at silvermoondragon[AT]iprimus[DOT]com[DOT]au including:

  5. Deadline is Tuesday 27th October (the day after Pink Ribbon Day) and round up will be posted late in the week.
